Write about how the setting or any of the characters
remind you of people or characters in your own personal life. How are the
situations or events similar to or different from your own life?
Reflection:
The play indeed relates to my own life. You may find
the same characters everywhere in your everyday life.
In the play we meat different individuals with
inappropriate behaviour, which in a way is comparable to my life. To a greater
or lesser extent, I deal with selfishness, greed, jealousy etc.
Among other contexts it occurs in the school, in the
family, in relations, in a larger global context etc.
Mr Birling represented greed. An example is the dining
table of Birlings with champagne, dessert and port. On the other hand, he views
the working class to be greedy. He claims they would ask for the “earth” if
allowed. By the way this attitude reveals his complete lack of self-awareness.
The climate change is a result of greed and the
resistance to refugees is probably too.
Greed is also expressed in a desire to have more of
something than you need. Greed doesn’t just have to do with money.
Anything you do to enrich yourself is an example of
greed.
However, Greed and Selfishness are very closely
connected.
Among other examples, Mrs.Birling seems rather
selfish, after she refuses to help a young woman in need and she seems
unchanged by the inspector`s speech.
I`m mostly confronted with self-centred people during
my education or work. A selfish person has difficulty seeing beyond herself and
she often criticizes others in an effort to feel superior.
Sheila is jealous to the appearance of Eva, when she
first met her in the Milward`s warehouse.
Jealous occurs in a relationship, if someone that you
love seems interested in another person or if someone has something that you
want.
